Latin American Literatures and Cultures
Our Program
The Latin American Literatures and Cultures Program at The Ohio State University
offers one of the most distinguished and comprehensive MA and PhD programs on
Latin American cultural studies in the nation. Ohio State is one of the largest
research public universities in the United States and there are many resources
on our campus to support the study of Latin American Literatures and Cultures
from different perspectives. The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) lists
over 100 faculty members with teaching and research interests in the continent.
Our faculty has many complementary areas of research and are, by no means, limited
to the following concentrations: Ethnic and Gender Studies, Globalization Studies,
Indigenous and Colonial, Literary and Cultural Theories, Migration, Border & Latino/a
Studies, National Identities and Subject Formations, Performance and Film Studies,
Popular and Visual Cultures, Subaltern and Postcolonial Studies, Transatlantic
Studies, and Comparative Studies of Lusophone and Hispanic Latin America.
The fields of specialization of our faculty cover most of the geocultural regions - Mexico,
Central
America and the Caribbean, the Andean Region, Brazil, and the Southern Cone;
as well as the distinctive areas which organize our curriculum -
Latin
American Indigenous, Colonial, National, Modern, and Postmodern literatures and
cultures.
The students in our program are international, national, regional and local,
including graduates of our own undergraduate Spanish and Latin American literatures
and cultures concentrations. OSU’s rich academic environment offers a unique
opportunity for students to receive comprehensive preparation as Latinamericanist
scholars. We invite you to explore our Web site to learn more about what we do
